If you're running a business, it's important to make sure that as many people as possible know about it. One great way to do this is through search engine optimization (SEO). SEO involves making your website more visible in search engine results pages (SERPs), so that potential customers can find you more easily. There are a variety of techniques that you can use to improve your rankings, and the best way to start is by understanding what SEO is and how it works. In this post, we'll explain everything you need to know about ranking your business for lead generation, Let's get started!

What Is SEO

SEO is a way to make your website rank higher in Google, Yahoo and Bing search results. the lower you appear on the page results the less traffic your site will get meaning less sales and customers.

It is important because google searches dominate all online search providers and it’s something every business should have at the top of their priority with their marketing budget.

if you want people to see your business then SEO is for you.

How Does SEO Work

In order to achieve an optimal ranking on Google or Yahoo you must first understand how google search operates. Basically, google bots crawl through each indexed page on the internet and then create a resource map of all the nested pages available via links from other websites. This data it crawls provides Google with information as to which websites have good content relevant to certain keywords being searched for. They basically want to know, does your website have something someone would actually search for?

After Google's bots have crawled all indexed pages, they will hand the Google indexer the resource map. The Google indexer will then follow through and rank all of the pages accordingly to how Google's bot has ranked them for relevancy and content quality.

After Google has indexed each page and ranked them, they begin to 'serve' the results of a search engine query based on what they believe is truly relevant to that particular person searching.

Finally google takes around 2-4 weeks before it crawls through every single indexed page on the internet! This means that you as a business owner must optimize your website as much as possible within this timeframe before google starts serving results without first crawling your site (in case any new pages have been added, keywords, or optimizing edits)

Proper SEO breaks down into two parts

Part 1 (on site SEO)

When google crawls a page it does not care what type of tags or coding is on that page. All google cares about is the words that are written in text form under the content on the page. This means google bot will read all your keywords and see how they are distributed throughout your webpages. You can see how the content on your website is extremely important. There are three big things google will look at right off the bat.

1.  Meta Title and Meta Description

A webpage can have one meta title and description for each webpage you create, so be sure to make them relevant and targeted to your potential customer (it helps to sprinkle in some big keywords in there too) Also google will combine these two items when displaying results in their SERPs (search engine result pages) so make sure they are exactly what you want shown in Google's top spots for your website's name/page info

2. Alt Text

Google cannot read pictures or jpeg files, so instead you have to go into your website and label each picture so google knows exactly what the image is about. Otherwise, this will hurt your rankings. Be sure to label each photo explaining what it’s about in a way where it’s relevant to the page information. For example, if you have a personal training website and a picture of a barbell and you want to rank for the word personal trainer, you would put something like “personal training studio with barbells and equipment” it’s important to label each picture on every page so that Google fully understand your website, the better it understands the websites the higher it wants to rank you.

3. Headers

Headers (H tags) are basically a quick snapshot or a first impression that Google has of your website, it quickly at a Birdseye view tells Google what you say it’s all about who your service and what makes you different. Your headers are prioritized by H1 being the highest in weight and H6 being the lowest. Make sure you take the main parts of your website copy and the main keywords entitle them with H tags, make sure you only have one H1 tag and everything else will get ranked accordingly, your second biggest keywords are H2’s the next are H3’s and so on.

Part 2 (off site SEO)

A few things that go on with offsite SEO but the main one is back linking. Back linking is how many other websites have your domain on them, the more trusted websites refer you with the link on their website the more google understands you are a trusted website. This is when your rankings go up! Not every back link is created equal some back links have low juice or trust some have very high trust with Google and will give you a big push in the rankings. It’s important to understand we are looking for a quality not quantity when hunting for backlinks.
